We invite you to read about the talented horses at Will Coleman Eventing below. Many of these horses are available to own through syndication. If you are interested in becoming an owner, please visit our Ownership Opportunities/Available Syndicates page.
OBOS O’Reilly “Oboe”
Breed: Irish Sport Horse (OBOS Quality x Clover Hill)
Owned By: Four-Star Eventing Group
“Oboe” was initially bought out of the UK as a re-sale horse when he was a rising 5-year-old. Fortunately, that plan was thwarted by Oboe’s rather exuberant personality. Will claims that the horse was “un-trainable” as a young horse, and there are many stories which justify this assertion! However, As a nine-year-old, Oboe started to mature, and now has multiple three-star wins to his credit.
He is a fabulous cross-country horse and an amazing jumper, and his dressage has become more than competitive. He’s an exciting horse with a huge personality and upside. In 2015, Oboe completed his first Rolex Kentucky CCI4* in fine form, finishing in 6th place over and as the USEF National Reserve Champion! Will and Oboe placed 13th in the CIC3* at Richland Park in their last prep run before heading overseas to contest the Blenheim CCI3* where they finished in 11th place on their dressage score.
Soupçon de Brunet
Owned By: The Conair Syndicate
Will fell in love with Soupçon de Brunet when he first tried him in France. He is a lovely type, with the most wonderful effortless jump. He was ridden and produced by an amateur and competed up to the CCI2* level in France. Will and Soupçon de Brunet completed their first Intermediate together at Five Points Horse Trials in September, completed their first CIC2* together at Plantation Field, and went on to complete the Fair Hill CCI2* with a clean cross-country round. Will feels very, very blessed to have him in the barn and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
UPDATE: Soup is back! After a year hiatus for an unfortunate bone bruise, Soupçon had a fantastic return to competition with a win in the OP division at Seneca Valley. Go Soupçon!
Tight Lines “Phish”
Owned By: The Conair Syndicate
Tight Lines aka “Phish” was a racehorse in France before he started eventing, and has since competed through the Intermediate/2* level. Phish arrived and settled in nicely during the summer of 2014, and he and Will completed their first Preliminary together at Five Points Horse Trials in September. They easily made the move up to Intermediate, finishing 5th at Maryland Horse Trials in October and finishing 6th in their first CIC2* together at the Virginia Horse Trials. The pair finished 5th in the Open Intermediate at Pine Top at the beginning of the 2015 season, and have since completed the CIC2* at Fair Hill International, placed 8th in the CIC2* at Jersey Fresh, and then traveled to Bromont Canada where they finished 6th in the CCI2*.
Most recently Will and Phish were CCI2* champions at the Dutta Corp Fair Hill International!
“Boris” is a lovely new addition to Will Coleman Equestrian. Previously campaigned by Michael Pollard and Heather Gillette, Boris is a phenomenal athlete with an incredibly sweet disposition. He comes to work every day, always tries his hardest and has all the makings of a great event horse. We are so excited to have this horse in our program and very thankful to the McDermott’s for giving us the opportunity!
Will and Boris just completed their first event together winning the Open Preliminary division at Seneca Valley!
Cooley Gideon “Roy”
Breed: Irish Sport Horse (Aldato x Cruising)
Owned By: KBLB Event Horses LLC
“Roy” is perhaps the most talented young horse in the barn from a purely athletic standpoint. His cross-country instincts are amazing, and he has a gallop that makes you melt. He is a green horse, but his natural ability makes him very attractive and he has made it all seem quite easy so far. In 2014 he placed 6th at Surefire in the Open Training, moved up to Preliminary at the Maryland Horse Trials in October, and finished in 8th in the Open Preliminary division at the Virginia Horse Trials. He started off the 2015 season with a 9th place finish in the Preliminary at Ocala Horse Properties, and in June he traveled to Bromont Canada where he placed 10th in his first CCI1*. Roy moved up to Intermediate at Five Points in September, placing 9th.
Roy had a fantastic spring in 2016. After a great run at Jersey Fresh CIC2* in May, where he placed 15th, he went on to the Jaguar Land Rover Bromont CCI and completed his first CCI2* in great form placing 8th.
Butch Cassidy “Newman”
Breed: Spanish Warmblood (Aventino x Valespoir Malabry)
Owned By: Four-Star Eventing Group
“Newman” is another fantastic young horse that is part of Will’s “farm system.” A Spanish-bred horse, he is probably the best equine model in the barn. An exceptional jumper with championship quality movement and gallop, Newman is quite a talent. In 2014 he earned several top placings at Training level, including 3rd at Sporting Days Farm, 2nd at Pine Top, and 1st at Surefire on a 29.1. He also won the 5-year-old Young Event Horse division at Waredaca on an impressive score of 84.14. Newman finished out the 2014 season with a 1st place finish at his first Preliminary level event at Virginia Horse Trials! In 2015, Newman placed 7th in the Preliminary at Red Hills followed by 7th place at The Fork, 4th place at Fair Hill International, and a win in the Open Preliminary at the Virginia Horse Trials. He traveled to Bromont Canada to contest the CCI1* where they came in 2nd in a very competitve field.
Cooley Off The Record “Timmy”
Breed: Irish Sport Horse (Arkansas x Ohio)
Owned By: Off the Record Syndicate
Timmy is another nice young Irish horse that Will bought in early 2014. This horse is a very good jumper and has all the attributes of a top class eventer. In 2014 Timmy competed at Training level, earning several top placings including 2nd place at Fitch’s corner. He also placed 2nd in the 5-year-old Young Event Horse division at Waredaca. In 2015, Timmy earned 2nd place at Training at the Ocala Horse Properties Winter HT on a dressage score of 29.1 before moving up to Preliminary. He placed 4th at the Carolina International Horse Trials, 4th at Maryland Horse Trials, and 3rd at Millbrook Horse Trials.
Timmy made the move up to the Intermediate level in the spring of 2016 with a fantastic 2nd place finish in the CIC2* at Jersey Fresh.
Cooley Mahgeetah “Ollie”
Breed: Irish Sport Horse (Master Imp x Clover Hill)
Owned By: Teresa Louglin
“Ollie” is a beautiful 5 year-old gelding bred in Ireland. Will bought Ollie out of the Goresbridge Go-For-Gold Sale as a three year-old, and the horse has now jumped around a number of Training level events. His temperament is lovely, he has big-time scope, and is very flashy. In 2014, Ollie won the Training level division at Fitch’s Corner, finishing on his dressage score of 30, and placed 4th in the 5-year-old YEH division at Waredaca. He also won the Open Training division at Surefire, finishing on an impressive dressage score of 22.4! Ollie successfully made the move up to Preliminary level at Five Points Horse Trials in September. Congratulations to Teresa Loughlin of Middleburg, VA on the purchase of this fabulous and talented young star.
Teresa has entrusted us to continue Ollie’s education and we are thrilled to have him back at WCE! Ollie will contest his first CCI* at Midsouth this year in hopes of making the cut to appear on this year’s WCE Christmas Card ;).
“Eva” is another horse that Will found in Spain, bred by Luis Alvares Cervera, a well-known Spanish eventer and show jumper. This mare is gorgeous, and is nearly full Thoroughbred as well. This young mare arrived in May of 2014 and as she is a bit too small for Will, has begun training with Katie. She completed her first Novice at Waredaca in August of 2015 with Katie, adding just a few cross-country time penalties to her dressage score.
Breed: Irish Sport Horse (by Pacino)
Owned By: Team Rebecca LLC
“Al” is lovely type with natural jumping ability. He has a ton of personality and loves to play both on the ground and under tack so hold on! Al won his first attempt at the Young Event Horse series in the Five-Year-Old class at Waredaca on an 83%. At the Fair Hill Young Event Horse Championships, Al had the highest conformation and jumping scores and ultimately placed 3rd overall in the 5 year old class.
This big guy just recently upgraded to the Preliminary level and will set his sights on Midsouth CCI1* this fall.
Highly Suspicious “Nick”
“Nick” is also a lovely type that appears to have all the pieces of a future Eventing star. He has such a knack for jumping that he is routinely found on the wrong side of his paddock fence having jumped out! Nick placed second in his first Young Event Horse series Five-Year-Old class at Waredaca on an 81%.
After a season of training level, Nick has upgraded to the Preliminary level with a great run at Seneca Valley in June. Keep your eye on this one!
War Begun “Wally”
Breed: AQPS (by Network)
Owned By: Team Rebecca LLC
“Wally” is a beautiful model that we found in Brittany, France. He began his career as a steeplechase prospect but ended up a bit too slow for the job. With a powerful jump and incredible mind, we are hopeful of making this one into a great event horse. Wally is a puppy dog in the barn and is often teased for his foal-like nickering at feeding time!
Breed: Selle Francais (by Diarado)
Owned by: Team Rebecca LLC
“Toby” is just an absolute dude. He has a magnitude of confidence and is happy to go along with whatever is asked of him. He is a grandson of the famous jumping stallion “Diamant de Semilly” and surprisingly has Welsh pony blood in his dam line. Toby is a stunning type with a lovely presence and we look forward to starting his eventing career in the spring of 2016 with eyes on the Young Event Horse Championships at the end of the year.
Owned By: Christine Turner and Indian Creek Farm
“Rusty” as he is known in the barn is a sweetheart of a stallion and at just 5 years of age, already has a number of foals on the ground.
At the Trakehner stallion licensing in Neumunster, Germany, Rusticus was said to be ‘fascinating to watch at liberty and over jumps’. He received the “Best Anglo Trakehner” prize of the event, as the best half-blood stallion of the entire crop.
Thanks to Christine Turner for entrusting us with her special boy. We are very excited to have this talented young stallion in the program and look forward to contesting the Fair Hill Young Event Horse 5 year old Championships with him in October of this year!
